We all know work can influence our mental health. Despite attitudes changing for the better, it is still considered taboo to discuss our issues in some offices. Mental illness has a real impact on employee’s productivity and costs UK businesses around £35 billion every year. Work-related mental health issues must be assessed to measure the levels of risk to staff hence why the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) now recommends all employers provide Mental Health First Aid training at the same level as First Aid at Work training. Furthermore, recent studies show that 68% of people feel that their employer should be doing more to address mental health issues at work.
Emico has organised a 2 days Mental Health First Aid course in May 2019 across the head office and sites. Some people have asked for the opportunity to complete the training, others have been nominated but everyone was happy to be there and our amazing trainers from the Lighthouse Club Charity have made the experience invaluable. Certificate holders will be able to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health illnesses and effectively guide a colleague towards the right support.
