World Mental Health Day 2020 is one of the most important health and wellbeing events in the year. The world is experiencing the unprecedented effect of the current global health emergency due to COVID-19 which has impacted on the mental health of millions of people. We know that levels of anxiety, fear, isolation, uncertainty, and emotional distress experienced have become widespread.
The months of lockdown and loss have affected us all, and prioritising mental health has never been more important. This year our aim was to raise awareness of mental health across the company by doing one thing for better mental health.
On Friday 9th October 2020, staff across Emico changed their background picture on Teams to show their support on this important topic.
We challenged our people to mark the day in other ways such as taking some time out to go for a walk; learning a new skill or do something creative; reach out to someone or take the first steps to accessing support for themselves.
Other ways to show support included:
Changing their social media platforms background and cover photos to the ‘Mind’ charity background
Our decision to support Mind this year was based on the frightening statistics that male construction site workers are more likely to commit suicide than the average UK male. Being an multi capable engineering company working within the construction industry, Emico feel it is part of their duty to promote good mental health and improve the knowledge and services around mental health.
Thanks to all our people who supported this worldwide event.
