Project Description: Emico completed the installation of nearly 50,000 metres of Fibre Optic cables throughout the Parliamentary Estate in Westminster. The project is the first phase of the Parliamentary Estate Data Interconnectivity which involves the linking of the Parliament Estate via Fibre Optic cables. The works present a cross-estate ICT infrastructure to support the Digital Services LAN deployment strategy to support the Data Centre move. The works interfaced with the Northern Estate Programmes. The two new 'Primary' LAN core locations are created in close proximity to the Estate.

Design and Delivery Detail:

  • High degree of coordination and interfacing was required
  • Testing of all cables was carried out by the Emico Comms Team 
  • Installation of Fibre Optics through various streets around Westminster.
    • Collaboration within Kier controlled traffic management plan
    • Liaising with TFL
  • The cables were primarily installed through existing road ducts which - accessed via manhole covers.
  • Demobilisation site activities and coordination with security services to create holding zones during the American President’s State visit
