Project Description: The new Northern Line Extension (NLE) into Battersea Power Station Development. New Tunnel, Shafts & Headhouse and two new Stations. The Northern Line Extension between Kennington and Battersea has helped regenerate the Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea areas by supporting new jobs and homes. The extension was completed in autumn 2021.
The Kennington Loop currently provides a turning facility for the terminating Charing Cross Branch Northern Line trains at Kennington Station. The extension to Battersea required connections to be made at two locations in the loop to allow new northbound and southbound running tunnels to be constructed. These connections had to be made at the existing northbound and southbound straight sections of the Kennington Loop.
